Parish trip to Cambridge

Coming from 'up north' I confess that there are large areas of 'the south' that have lain
largely unexplored by me, and Cambridge was one such city: so I was pleased when
it was decided that this would be the destination for this year's church outing.

The weather was dry and quite pleasant and we reached Cambridge with plenty of time
to explore.

The first thing that struck me was the immense amount of beautiful buildings.  The university
alone boasts a medieval court and a chapel designed by Sir Christopher Wren to name but
two of the sights.  Then there's the opportunity to punt along the River Cam or see the
fabulously terrifying Grasshopper Clock.  The mixture of old and contemporary things
to see and do was a joy.

As Corpus Christi College are our patrons, we had arranged to meet up with the Rev.
James Buxton, who is Chaplain of the college.  This was a real treat for us all as he gave us
an excellent tour of the campus and provided us with tea and cakes.  We were made to feel
very welcome.  Then to top off the day we celebrated Evensong at King's College which was
magnificent.  The choir, the chapel and the music were, for me, the highlight of the trip.

Spending a day with friends in Cambridge was a real treat but I feel I have to go back again,
as there's even more for me to see.
